About This Micro-Lot

SL-28 Variety
Originally developed in Kenya in the 1930s for drought resistance and exceptional cup quality (from Tanzanian Bourbon lineage), SL-28 is famed for its complex, vibrant flavors. Now grown experimentally in Costa Rica's West Valley by producer Allan Oviedo, this lot shows a cleaner, fruit-forward profile: red grape, red cherry, dark chocolate, hazelnut, and butterscotch finish. Producer: Allan Oviedo, Don Joel Micromill.

Second-generation grower Allan inherited the 12-hectare farm from his father Joel (~20 years ago) in Alajuela's West Valley. Starting with low cherry prices, he drove taxis in San José to fund improvements, eventually building his own micromill (named "Don Joel") for quality control. Now run with son Ignacio, the farm uses mechanical drum dryers to combat climate-driven rains—ensuring consistent drying for this rested washed lot. The Farm in West Valley
A small family operation producing ~350 fanegas per harvest, adapting tradition to modern challenges. This 23kg micro-lot is truly limited—rare SL-28 from a dedicated Costa Rican family pushing specialty forward.
